| The A1(M)
Motorway runs right up the centre of Welwyn Hatfield and residents
from Welham Green, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City and Welwyn have all
complained about the rising sound levels emanating from an
increasingly busy motorway.
Up until now, most people have thought that a noisy motorway was
simply a penalty that had to be paid for living in Welwyn Hatfield.
However, modern "whisper quiet" motorway surfaces are now available
and these surfaces can halve the audible sound level from a motorway
like the A1(M).
The government's Highways Agency is
responsible for deciding where and when road surfaces are upgraded and
this campaign is designed to draw attention to the problem in Welwyn
Hatfield.
The campaign was established after
Welwyn Hatfield's Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman, Grant Shapps,
and Handside District Councillor, Lance Stanbury, identified the issue
to be a constant complaint in Welwyn Garden City.
No sooner had the campaign been
launched in Handside, then calls started coming in from all over
Welwyn Hatfield and Grant Shapps therefore decided to expand the
campaign constituency-wide in order to build as much pressure as
possible for the Highways Agency to place cutting the needless A1(M)
Motorway noise higher on their agenda.
As the Conservative Parliamentary
Spokesman, Grant Shapps campaigns throughout Welwyn Hatfield on a wide
variety of quality of life issues that concern local people. You're
