The residents of Welwyn Hatfield are calling for a quieter motorway surface from junctions 1 to 7
in a campaign led by local MP, Grant Shapps.

Updates On This Quieter A1M Campaign

Noise levels from the A1(M) through Welwyn Hatfield have reached unacceptable levels and local campaigner and now Member of Parliament, Grant Shapps, has launched a campaign to get something done about the problem.

Modern "whisper quiet" motorway surfaces would roughly halve the audible sound level and Grant is building a petition to be presented to the Highways Agency demanding that action is taken.

During five years of campaigning on the subject, Grant has even hired a pneumatic drill to gave the Highways Agency a taste of 78 decibels outside of their own offices!

To highlight the appalling noise coming from the A1(M), Grant Shapps recently hired a pneumatic drill, stood outside the government's Highways Agency in Hatfield and gave them a taste of 78 decibels -- the equivalent of A1(M) motorway noise.
